SCMMEA FR/SOPH District Choir Audition Information
2009
Audition Date: Saturday, September 19, 2009.
Location: O’Bannon Fine Arts Center, Drury University
Audition Piece: Farewell, My Love, Charles C. Hirt
Concert date is Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Evangel University. Please have students check for conflicts BEFORE the audition for the choir.
1. Complete the Pre-Registration form and email, fax, send, or phone me to arrive NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 7, 2009. We will assign audition times based on first response and your requested times. Please make a copy of your list for your records prior to mailing. The form contains my email, fax, address and phone numbers. I will email or fax times back to you no later than September 14, 2009, so that you can make timely transportation arrangements with your schools. I will do my best to accommodate your time slot needs if you let me know what they are on the registration form. Directors may request audition time assignments to fit their students and school needs. Once the times for your students have been sent to you, you will be expected to pay for the number of entries you requested. Therefore, if you CANCEL entries after September 14, 2009, you will still be expected to pay for those students who do not attend.
2. PLEASE NOTE CAREFULLY: No more than 20 students may audition from each school, and no more than 5 max per sopranos and altos and 6 max per tenors and basses.
3. Arrange for a purchase order or check for Audition Fees. Fees are now $9.00 per student. All PO’s and checks should be made out to SCMMEA. (We will take cash too!)
4. An audition CD is available, including all four audition pieces in the order of yearly rotation. Each piece will utilize the same two versions of each voicing: one practice track and one performance track. Students will audition to the performance track of their voice part. To order copies of this audition CD, complete the enclosed form and email or mail to me with a check or PO for $13.50 as soon as possible (shipping included). CD’s should arrive to you within 5 days. Make check or PO payable to SCMMEA – CD.
1. Each student will sing his or her part of the audition piece with the audition performance CD, which contains the three other voices.
2. Students will sing a major ascending and descending scale on numbers, solfege, or neutral vowel. Starting pitches for the scales are:
Soprano – G; Alto – Db; Tenor – F; Bass – B
3. Tonal memory will be sung as part of the audition process. There will be three exercises in progressive difficulty. Students may sing back on neutral syllables, numbers or solfege. Students will have a maximum of two attempts per tonal memory. Only one judge will give the score for tonal memory.
4. There will be four audition rooms, one for each voice. There will be two judges per room. The same set of judges will staff each room for the entire day. The judges’ scores will be added together to achieve the total audition score for each student.
