All District 7th & 8th Grade Honor Bands

Dear Directors:

I hope your year has started well. The date for this year's Clinic is November 15th

The District Junior High Bands will again be divided into 2 performing groups: an area 7th Grade Band and an area 8th Grade Band. Both bands will prepare several selections.  Parts will be sent out later with the announcement of the Honor Bands.

The Bands are selected by a process known as professional draft.  We do not have the advantage of an audition process.  The instrumentation of each band we will try to fill is as follows: 10 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 24 soprano clarinets, 4 bass clarinets, 1 contra clarinet, 6 alto saxes, 4 tenor saxes, 2 bari saxes, 8 horns, 10 trumpets, 10 trombones, 4 baritones (please specify bass or treble clef), 6 tubas, 7 percussion.

NOMINATION PROCESS

1.      Recommend up to 10 students per grade level in order of playing ability.

2.      If you list 10 students, try to include at least one of each of the instruments we are trying to fill. Please, do not list more then 10 students.  If spots open, I will send out first come first serve e-mails!

3.      Make a special effort to include any outstanding double reed, low woodwind or tuba players. Percussionist must play both drums and mallets!!!! Also, designate Baritone  B.C. or T.C.

4.      Every school submitting names will have at least one participant per band.  The larger the band size, the more participants.  Make sure you list the enrollment size on the nomination form (if you combine 7th & 8th in your band class, please list enrollment size for each grade separately).

5.   Deadline for submitting nominations is October 12, 2008.

6.      There is a $7.00 participating fee per student due on or before November 15, 2008.

7.      Please keep in mind that we will try to take your top students, but if there are 20 instruments rated high for an instrument that we only take 4 of, somebody is going to miss out.  Also, some instruments do not get enough nominated, so be sure to nominate those students, such as tuba, horn, double reeds, etc.

8.      The clinic/concert will be all day in Marshfield at the Jr. High. The schedule and list of participants will be mailed out towards the end of October.  This will give your students who make the bands a chance to learn and practice their music before November 15th

Thanks,
