Yesterday I sent some of you a list of Missouri reps and senators emails and
addresses. Tonight at SCMMEA Board meeting, I was asked to compose a sample
letter for you to cut and paste with those email addresses. As you have
heard, Mo legislature has done it again - all but FA Map was reinstated. We
need to let our voices be heard once more immediately. Please either use
this cut and paste letter or write an original and get it in the email system
TODAY!!! Time is critical.
I will attach the addresses again for those of you who didnt get them. Mark

Dear
I am writing as a concerned parent and citizen of Missouri to vigorously
protest the non-reinstatement of the 5th grade Fine Arts MAP Assessment. As
a parent and citizen , I feel that this postponement is undermining the real
value of fine arts in the schools for our children.
The Fine Arts are included as a core area of the Show-Me-Standards, and as
such, if for no other reason, the Fine Arts deserve the same full backing in
the teaching and assessment as the other core subject areas for Missouri
school children. Currently, due to the non-reinstatment of the Fine Arts
Map, it is the only core content area that is not assessed at the state
level. This postponement sends a strong message that policy decisions are
not following the intent of our state legislation.
If the Missouri Assessment Program is designed to improve the educational
process for both students and teachers, and is Missouri's State Board of
Education's response to the "Outstanding Schools Act of 1993", then how can
our students demonstrate at state level the knowledge, skills and
competencies represented in the six content areas of the "Show-Me" Standards
without this assessment in place?
I believe that this assessment must be immediately reinstated, regardless of
budget shortfalls. Do we show our children we mean what we say, are serious
about education, and respect our educational governing boards? Or do we show
our children we, well, what do we show our children?
Please reinstate the 5th grade Fine Arts MAP immediately.
